If you look at the top selling cars in United Arab Emirates, you will find a solid collection of mid-sized SUVs. After 2014, auto manufacturers felt that the people were finding small sized SUVs or cross overs worthy in their every day’s transit. We can expect a decent fuel economy and a versatile interior space from modern cross overs.

Our analysts picked top three cross overs sold in 2016: Ford Escape vs Honda CR-V vs Toyota RAV 4. Let’s dive deep into its specifications.

When it comes to comparing all these cars we have to consider all the upcoming small features to get the best out of it; how the car makes feel us while driving, how much cabin space we can avail, what are the new infotainments and how they are different from each other.

Our chief car editors agreed that Ford Escape, Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV 4 all drove very well and has similar specification and price details which leads them to conclude what is the best one among the three.

Recent renovation has improved the CR-V’s looks, but design inside and out is still benign rather than electrifying. But, the new Honda CRV has improved look in exterior angles as the previous model Honda CRV looks awkward at some angles. Wraparound headlights in the front and a grille highlighting three prominent chrome bars contribute to a more violent front end than before.

The newly updated Toyota RAV4 improved things but it has no prominent things to standout. Larger badge gives the car a modern look and the moved grille bring some change to the exterior look. There is a bonus change in top-hinged tailgate.

Small tweaks add up to big changes for 2017 Ford Escape.

Interior & Exterior:

Honda CRV is a classic five-door five seated compact SUV, CRV length is over 4.5 meters which is too big when it comes to crossovers. This has one of the most exciting interior layout, which has a basic get climate control system, cruise control and electrically adjustable and heated door mirrors. This car comes with DAB, a CD player, USB ports with MP3 connectivity and Bluetooth as standard items to be placed in the dashboard.

Toyota RAV-4 has great features but it is not fully optimized when it compares to its rival Honda CRV. As its cabin lacks good features. The dashboard includes touchscreen display and DAB radio.

The Honda CR-V is one of the most practical cars in the compact SUV class, with a multipurpose cabin and plenty of luggage capacity. Storage space inside the car is impressive and the interior is well designed to cater for the demands of family. Toyota RAV4 has a boot equipped with top-hinged tailgate. Boot area having a total capacity of 100 liters’ storage space. RAV4 is about 4.6 meters long and 1.8 meters wide which paves freer leg-room in front and rear seats.

Unlike the rivals here, the Ford Escape is offering more than one engine option. It can be had with a base of 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine, a powerful turbocharged 2-liter four-cylinder or the mid-tier turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder. This engine is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission.

Although Honda CRV is providing only two variants. The 1.6 i-DTEC diesel comes in two states of tune one in lower and other high powered four-wheel drive. This offers 153bhp at 6,500rpm, but when compared to the diesels it looks short on torque.

But the last competitor Toyota RAV 4 has dropped the 2.2-litre D-4D diesel option, leaving just the 2.0-litre model. The hybrid version of the Toyota RAV4 is a great choice for driving in town, as there’s undeniably no noise while crawling through traffic.

Safety Measures:

All models have a range of safety measures with pre-detection collision detection system and a lane departure alert. As everyone knows Japanese technology mostly rely on safety measures, but the Honda CRV ranked 56th place in the 2016 Driver Power Survey which is a significant drop in rank. Previously it scored in 36th position. Still, the Honda CRV has six airbags, tire pressure monitors, stability control with trailer assist and three Isofix child seat mounting points as standard.

Advanced features:

In RAV4 we can’t see any high tech gadgets as the car lacks notable Apple’s CarPlay or even Android Auto. But fortunately we can see a new type of application called Entune which will integrate with your smart phone; where you search online destinations like hotel and nearby theaters.

Value for Money:

RAV4 is for sale in United Arab Emirates at AED 90,000. Starting price of Ford Escape is around AED 85,000. Honda CR-V is little over priced when compared to Ford Escape at AED 87,500. Overall RAV4 is little high priced due to its engine performance and practicality. Ford Escape is another most sold car in United Arab Emirates. There are people who loves to ride safe and tide in Ford Escape as well.

If you go for classic and long lasting mid-sized SUV then you can go for Toyota RAV4. Surprisingly RAV4 handled the off-road course very well. But, The Toyota RAV4 has grown up significantly in its latest generation, but it lacks character and is a dull drive. Latest Honda CR-V is practical and comfortable, but it lacks the driving sparkle of some class-leading crossovers. Ford Escape is very cheap when compared to its rival makers Toyota RAV4 and Honda CR-v.
